Day 15: Monologue aka “Nana Remembers”

NaPoWriMo (2019), Poetry

Capture

It took time to rebuild child but the war did not destroy,

Our hearts did not boast but they were filled with small and consistent joys,

We had to seek to find them, if you can imagine that,

There were no buttons to push in days like that,

So everyday I would rise with the citrus sun and make your Papa his coffee,

He’d be tired and sore as could be but he’d still manage to smile at me,

Sometimes, we wouldn’t say a single word,

Only sounds were the singing birds,

& I’d have lived a hundred years or more in his gaze,

But as you know we’re saying goodbye to him today,

We’ll be alright, just remember, endings are an inevitable part of life, okay?
